NBA...The last 3 weeks of the NBA regular season is among the strongest times of the year.  Teams clearly have divergent motives as they either play out the string or super surge to either make the Playoffs or get best seeding.  It is also a time when coaches choose to rest players for the upcoming playoffs.  With the linemaker  sending  out the opening line 24 hours in advance of the game, he is not privy to game day information.  It is a time when the attentive handicapper can find great value in game day information.  I have been vigilant in this record for the last 35 years making it one of the reasons why April NBA basketball has been so successful.  To augment this handicapping, there are a group of situational plays that have been strong and consistent throughout the years.  It is a mistake that most casual bettors make when they hang it up after the NCAA Finals.  Plenty of profit to be made in the closing weeks in the regular season!

Once the Playoffs begin, it is a veritable bonanza.  The linemaker is well aware of the “Flip Flop” angle which has the bettor making  his play on the straight up loser in the previous game of the series.  Through diligent research over the years there have become finely tunes ways in which the conscientious handicapper can refine the “Flip Flop” leading to extraordinarily strong situational plays.  But Playoff basketball is more than just technical handicapping.  The student of the game must watch the ebb and flow of the series, pay close attention to the physical matchups on the floor and understand which of these are going to persist and for which of these the most studious of coaches can make the proper adjustments.  With each team in the Playoffs giving 100% virtually every game, it is the purest time of the season to handicap the sport.  I have always reaped great rewards in springtime in the NBA.  I look forward to doing it again year after year as the profits are most rewarding.

MLB...April is one of the most profitable months for handicapping MLB.  The linemaker often puts the final touches on his pitcher power ratings on a basis of work in Spring training.  Nothing could be further from the truth as veteran hurlers have little concern with their ERA and are usually looking to fine tune one or more of their variety of pitches.  To a casual handicapper, the expectations of a pitcher bounceing back from a bad performance are the norm.  Nothing could be further from the truth as there are numerous cases each season when momentum either on the upside or down side is the rule for these starting hurlers.  In addition, there is a very good “Book” on pitchers who start either fast or slow in the month of April.  April is also a time in which the weather is most influencial on scoring in the game. Wind influences the parks more in April than in any other month.  Paying close attention to the influence of the wind and temperature in the month of April can be a valuable ally when doing OVER/UNDER handicapping.  The linemaker is locked in to a narrow range for his OVER/UNDER offering.  Take advantage when extraordinary circumstances dictate either a high or low scoring game.

Once the weather warms up, it is important to not get locked in on the starting pitchers.  This is not 50 years ago when teams had a 4 man rotation who pitched 7+ innings every 4^th game.  The hardest thing about handicapping baseball these days is the bullpen.  They now pitch approximately 1/3 of the game with 3 or 4 different hurlers often taking part in a contest.  Although it is never an option to know exactly who is going to pitch in the bullpen each evening, it is normally well known when a closer will be rested because of an arduous recent work schedule.   With the advent of the computer age, there are numerous measurements for the overall success or failure of the bullpen.  With a bit of hard work, the most meaningful factors can be isolated as part of the handicap.  Most importantly, however, it is valuable to recognize that the hitting component of the handicap is the aspect that is most overlooked.  I use hitting along with home/road dichotomies and ball park adjustments as often more than 50% of the handicap.  Finally, in my opinion, the most underrated part of the baseball handicap is using the momentum of current form, just like winning and losing streaks for individual bettors, MLB teams go on notable winning and losing streaks in the course of the season which are unaccounted for by the linemaker.  Though betting the bases can become a daily grind, when you are bringing down profits on a weekly basis, it can be one of the most enjoyable sports of the year.  Always remember to shop for the best prices playing only nickel juice understanding that what you save is what you earn.  I will be authoring another winning baseball season this year.  It’s a time when the professionals make a lot of money while the amateurs sit on the sidelines.  It is also a wonderful way to build your bankroll for the upcoming season.
